The training course shall cover firearms safety and handling, shooting technique, and laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm. Further, the course shall include live-fire on an approved range where safe handling of, and shooting proficiency with, each firearm requested to carry concealed is demonstrated. The following live-fire standards apply to the range qualification:
Firearms will be inspected to ensure compliance with CA State and Department Standards.
Holsters will be inspected to ensure compliance with department guidelines, including the use of an acceptable retention method (i.e. snap, button, lever, hood).
When instructed, a full magazine or cylinder will be emptied at a designated target, while standing at the 15-yard, 10-yard, and 7-yard lines.
A passing score is considered hitting the designated target area with at least 70% of the shots that were fired (i.e. 21 of 30, 11 of 15).
